Everything Is Still Spinning At The Carousel Bar in New Orleans

in The Sights

One of the cooler places we went to in New Orleans was the Carousel Bar & Lounge at the Hotel Monteleone. You have to watch closely but the entire bar is slowly rotating. This New Orleans landmark was packed and obviously a destination location for many of the people in the bar.

From Wikipedia: The famous Carousel Bar & Lounge is the only revolving bar in New Orleans, Louisiana. The bar is inside the Hotel Monteleone and overlooks Royal Street in the French Quarter of New Orleans. Installed in 1949, the 25-seat circular bar turns on 2,000 large steel rollers, powered by a 1⁄4 hp (190 W) motor.

The bar rotates at a rate of one revolution every 15 minutes. In addition to the rotating bar, an adjoining room includes booths and tables with live entertainment offered nightly!

The drinks were cold and tasty and the environment totally unique.

From the company’s website:

“The famous Carousel Bar & Lounge in Hotel Monteleone is a long-time favorite New Orleans hotspot. The classic New Orleans hotel bar is the city’s only revolving bar. For decades, it has lured guests in to take a spin on the 25-seat, bright, circus-clad Merry-Go-Round. Recently, Vogue Living named our bar one of the Top 20 Bars in the World, due in equal parts to our whimsical revolving carousel and comprehensive list of cocktails.”

Traveling for business always sounds glamorous to everyone who is not actually doing it. After a while it all becomes a monotonous blur of packing, unpacking, laundry ... and repeat. Forgetting what city you are in, or the time zone, is the norm. Celebrating obscenely high frequent flyer miles and Marriott points is a sick game only played by hardened business travelers in airport lounges. But if you keep your eyes open and never stop looking for one thing each day that excites you it can be glorious.
